6th Day of Social Christmas: Holiday iPhone Apps

December 18, 2010

Unwrap apps to make your iPhone or iPad more festive. We’ve got ideas to keep you entertained in that line to see Santa, rule an 8-bit wonderland, interact with a childhood classic, and make a pretty, pretty snowflake.

iPhone Apps

Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift (FREE) – Really cute and fairly addictive. It’s a quick moving puzzle game with cute sounds and graphics. With the price tag of FREE it will keep you and the kids entertained in those long lines to greet Santa.

Holiday CornHole! (FREE) – Now this corn hole thing is totally new to me since we moved to the South. You can play against your friend or against the computer. Fun, challenging and festive.

Christmas Countdown (FREE) – This app is as annoying as the repeated question of “When will Santa get here?” It counts down days, hours, minutes and seconds to Santa’s arrival. Great app for impatient children (or excited wives).

Flake Factory Lite (FREE) – Addictive app for artistic types. The lite version allows you to make virtual cuts on a blank snowflake. Fun way to play with geometry!

Dr. Elmo’s Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer ($0.99) – Just silly and packed full of stuff to do. Can’t believe someone actually made this and is charging people to download it.

Rudolph Camera ($1.99) – I love Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, so I love this app. Add sticker-ish images to your photos, add Rudolph-themed frames and then send them to friends. I mean who doesn’t want a photo of your cat and Rudolph?

WDW Holiday Wallpapers ($0.99) – This app is a series of 30 wallpapers to decorate your iPhone. I don’t really know if this is worth the buck price tag but if you are a serious Disney fan it might be worth it.

iPad Apps

Christmas Carol ($4.99) – Interactive, fabulous and heartwarming. This is an abridged version of the Dickens classic for the e-generation. You can touch images on each page to advance the story or interact with fun, steam-punkish art. It’s truly delightful!

Super 8-bit Santa ($0.99) – Seriously awesome throwback game. It’s basically Super Mario Bros. only way more snowy!

Fireplace ($0.99) – Imagine a crackling fire accompanied by one of seven holiday songs emitting from your iPad. Yes, for a buck all your holiday dreams can come true!

Christmas Music Master’s Collection (FREE) – Nice collection of over 60 holiday songs for your iPad. The free version come with ads, but are you really going to sit and watch this. It’s more of a leave it playing while you open presents, sort of thing.
